I am using Dreamweaver CS5 version 11.0 I am trying to connect Dreamweaver to my host.
However, it won’t connect and is coming up with a long error message as follows:

An ftp error occurred – cannot make connection to host. no response from the server. this may be due to one or more of the following reasons:

- accessing the server requires firewall settings that aren’t properly set. please verify that the firewall setting in the site category of the preferences dialogue box are properly set, and that the use firewall option in the site definition dialog box is selected.
- the server may be accepting only passive mode or only active mode. toggling the "use passive FTP" check box may help you establish a connection.
- if you are connection to an IPv6 enabled server, please select "use IPv6 transfer mode" check box in the advanced site definition dialog.
- your local firewall may be blocking the incoming FTP data. please disable it to see if it makes a difference.
- It is possible your FTP may be using a non-standard FTP port(21). if you need to specify a non – standard port, enter the port number after the host name separated by a colon":"

Under the ‘Servers’ settings, I know my user name and password are correct but as for the other fields, I’ve just had a best guess at them.

What goes in the box, ‘server name’? How do I find that out? At the minute I have pasted the IP address of the FTP server. Is this correct?

Whenever I click ‘Test’ it comes up with this message and I’ve been stuck on this for 4 days now. I am a complete novice at dreamweaver and web building.

I am creating a website for a musician. Therefore I need to be able to showcase the artist’s songs, videos, and photos, etc. I would prefer not to have to link the videos from youtube. Is there other options available to me that I can use in order to do this? The artist’s videos are not on youtube. They’re only on my computer and maybe a couple on Facebook at the moment. Can’t I upload them to FTP or something?? Is that not a good idea anymore or something?

I also would like to have the option to go through many templates AND be able to customize the template to my liking such as add criteria, remove criteria, change colors, etc. I have not figured out the art of designing my own web design template yet.

I want a welcome page that users can click to enter the website. I wanted a snippet of a video I actually created to play for a few seconds and then the option to get into the full website becomes available. Where can I find information on how to do that? I think I can probably find information on how to do that, but if anybody knows any good relevant information regarding that, I would appreciate the info as well.

And lastly, I would like to be given the option on how to make the website mobile so that it shows up on Android as well as IOS phones and devices.

I would like to be able to do this in the most cost efficient way. I do not mind spending money, but I want it to be worth it. I have researched various different websites. Xsite Pro is a favorite just to give you an idea. I just hate there is no trial version for me to use.

I am planning on registering a domain name as well as getting the site hosted as well. Oh, and I forgot to add that I like WYSIWYG and I want that as it is easier for me, but I still want to have the option to edit the html if necessary and I learn how to do it successfully in the future.

I have been doing a lot of research, but don’t want to be hasty in my decision or end up spending money for something I do not want. Please provide any relevant links with your answers. Thank you for all your help with this.

I would like to create a website for my company’s department and was wondering what i needed to accomplish this task. A little background of our company. I work for Northern tool + Equipment. We have our own servers, so what would be the best way to lunch a website. oh and i would like to have an ftp as well but I don’t know what i need to get either of these tasks done. Hey

I am currently hosting several versions of one website from my ftp server to basically show how the site has developed and got better since it was first hosted two years ago. On the current website i have links back to the old sites. For example, from my current site, i have a link to the 1st & 2nd draft and first 4 versions of the site hosted. these old websites are in different folders on my server which are all in one folder called site archive.

When i search for my website on a search engine, some of the old sites appear aswell as my current one.

How can i stop the old websites from appearing on search engines?

I will add more details if necessary cos im not the best at explainign
