Any good web-hosting supporting WordPress?

February 8th, 2012 4 comments

A common question:

If you guys have domain hosting for free, please tell me.

Otherwise, all I need is a free subdomain webhosting that supports the WordPress blogging software.

I already have a host but it has PHP5. People told me that the wordpress software works best with PHP4. For some reason, I can’t upload pictures and archives to WordPress because of this. They told me that PHP5 has some problems so I’m searching for a provider that has PHP4 or at least has the option to downgrade from PHP5 to PHP4.

The requirements for WordPress (I need) are:

PHP4
MySQL
PHPMyAdmin
FTP

once again, free domain and free webhosting would be nice

but what is necessary for me right now is subdomain

(i personally don’t know what any of those mean but yeah)

THANK YOU!!!
okay i just need to re-stress something:

FREE. not PAID hosting. lol

I need (almost) unlimited hosting?

February 7th, 2012 4 comments

A common problem:

Hello!

I have a small web design company. I offer my clients the whole deal, I setup everything for them because these are mostly small businesses that don’t have much web knowledge.

So I setup the hosting, e-mails, design a website and upload it, I do everything, so they don’t have to know anything about cpanel, ftp, e-mail etc.

So far I’ve been using a hosting company that I’m not satisfied with anymore, especially their support.

I am now looking for a hosting company that would offer me hosting of approximately 100 websites on one account.

Can someone please suggest any hosting company. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Thanks and best,
Luffy

Best budget web host?

February 5th, 2012 6 comments

A typical question:

Between iPage, Hostgator, and Just Host, which do you prefer? Other well-justified suggestions are acceptable. I’m upgrading from a free hosting site that has trouble with images.

It’s for a simple art website with many photos and minimal traffic. I don’t care about marketing and I probably won’t use their site building tools. I have a domain separately and can leave it where it is if it saves money. I must have good, reliable image hosting.

Requirements:

Unlimited bandwidth
Unlimited file size
Unlimited storage
POP3/Email forwarding
.95/mo. post-renewal fee max, initial fee less than /mo.
99% server uptime
Intuitive control panel
An easy uploader would be nice so I don’t have to deal with setting up FTP – it’s a simple site
I understand that "unlimited" is not actually unlimited on a shared server. I only mean "unlimited" in the webhosts’ marketing sense. I’m not interested in the ones that have explicit limits, such as GoDaddy.com which limits disk space.

create a website via iweb, map url and upload via FTP to your webhosting?

February 2nd, 2012 2 comments

A typical problem:

OK.
I want to develop a website via IWEB (Mac). I want to load in my hosting. As in my early stage of my business, I will hold on the domain name purchase for now. What I would like to do is to map the URL so it will point to my website and be easier for access. Can you please assist me with the necessary steps to accomplish that?

Best, John

I have a 14 year old brother, who is a web development prodigy, what is the best way for him to continue?

February 1st, 2012 5 comments

A typical query:

My brother is only 14 and is a master at web development. He has just finished building his first CMS 1.0, he is fluent in PHP. He know all the Adobe Creative Suite programs, He is a master at Adobe Flash and AS3, he knows javascript, html, all ftp and web hosting stuff, and He can build professional websites. He is learning AJAX and some other programs. He also knows alot of stuff and is an all around programmer who has potential to be the next great developer. He has a job for a professional website company, but I’m wondering if he can do more. Is it possible he could get a full scholarship and attend college now so he can learn at full speed and not be slowed down by high school? Please present some solutions and what you would do if you were him. Know any good colleges? Computer languages? let me know.

What is the best way to secure control panel access to multiple web developers?

January 30th, 2012 1 comment

A frequently-asked query:

Multiple websites are hosted with one hosting company, however only one control panel is provided for both sites. Each website has a different technical contact person. What’s the best way of providing secure access? FTP only access can be granted to each tech contact, but they may need control panel access to set up/modify SQL DBs etc.

The concern: In providing full control panel access, how does one really know what the technical contact is up to (i.e. is there a way to prevent/detect the tech from providing back door access for himself for the future, etc.)

Suggestion welcome.

What are the best free host you know of?

January 28th, 2012 3 comments

A frequently-asked query:

I need to find a new server since mine is starting to get more downtime than is acceptable, what I need is:

1GB Webspace (could live with half)
>8GB Monthly bandwidth
FTP Access
Cron Jobs
.htaccess control
and all the other related stuff

And no, I will not use 000webhost, just a little too sketchy for me.

I do like smaller hosts with less than 100 people on the server :)
(Post to host is fine if under 25 posts/month)
How on earth did I forget to say PHP with PDO and mySQL?
I was wanting the servers, not CMSs, I already have a custom made CMS based off simplepie
GoDaddy is crap.
